Plan for the whole device lifecycle

Registering the first device is straightforward. Managing replacements, expired credentials, ownership changes and different firmware versions across customers takes more thought.

We build the records and operator tools behind those jobs. Your team can see which device belongs to which customer, what software it is running and whether it has checked in recently. Access is separated so a customer cannot manage another customer's equipment.

A requested change is not a confirmed change

If a device is offline when an operator changes a setting, the cloud needs to track what was requested and what the device has actually reported. The interface should show a pending change until the device confirms the relevant state.

The same principle applies to fleet operations. A configuration change may succeed on some devices and fail on others. Operators need a record of the outcome and a way to retry or investigate the exceptions.

Make updates a controlled operation

Remote firmware updates depend on support in the hardware and firmware. Where available, we plan eligibility checks, staged rollout and the behaviour after an interrupted update with your device team.

Cloud costs also need a view beyond the first installation. Device count, message frequency, storage and logging all influence running costs. We can work with AWS IoT services or an appropriate existing platform and agree a monitoring and support arrangement for the parts we manage.

Can existing devices be added to a new cloud platform?

We first check how they identify, authenticate and communicate. Some can be migrated through configuration; others may need firmware changes or a bridging service.

Can you push firmware updates to every device?

Only if the devices support the required update mechanism. We agree which models and firmware versions are eligible and test failure recovery before wider rollout.

Who pays the cloud bills and manages the accounts?

We agree account ownership, billing and access in the proposal. The handover should make those responsibilities clear, along with the technical work included in ongoing support.
